Look, Grandma! Ni, Elisi! Written by Art Coulson and Illustrated by Madelyn Goodnight

In this short story, Coulson takes his readers on a linguistic journey with both the Tsalagi and English languages. Join Bo as he prepares to display his hand painted marbles to sell at the family booth during the Cherokee National Holiday in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, capital of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma. Madelyn Goodnight’s illustrations and Art Couldson’s story together create a depiction of tradition, problem solving, and even a little bit of math! In the final pages Coulson has included a dikaneisdi (glossary), description of the ancient game of marbles that is still played today and an opportunity to explore the math.
